The
Board has two basic tasks: - to oversee the detailed implementation
of the changeover to the euro;
and - to provide public and consumer information.
The Board was set up by Mr Charlie McCreevy TD Minister for
Finance on 5 May 1998 and includes representatives from organisations
representing a wide cross-section of Irish life. The Department
of Finance provides the Secretariat to the Board and the Chairperson
of the Board is Philip Hamell, a senior civil servant in the Department.
The
Secretariat compiles the material on the website. This website is part of Ireland's
National Information Programme on the changeover to the euro. The ECBI co-ordinates
the public information part of the Programme, while information for business is
provided by Forfás. Ireland's National Information Programme is part-funded by
the EU.
