The Three Elements of EMU  

As already stated, EMU essentially involves three elements: (i) the single currency, the euro; (ii) the single monetary policy implemented by the European Central Bank (the ECB); and (iii) closer co-ordination of Member States' economic and budgetary policies. These elements are now described in turn.
