Information
Between September 2001 and February 2002, a comprehensive information
booklet will be widely available to customers and the general public
at branches, supported by national radio advertising and information
packages to local radio Ð as part of the Irish Banks and Building Societies
Euro Information Campaign. Additionally, individual institutions are
providing their own information material to customers.
AN POST
Post Office Counter Services
- Post office counter transactions will be
processed in Irish pounds until the end of 2001
- From 1 January 2002 until 9 February 2002,
Irish pounds will continue to be accepted at post office counters.
Any change due to customers will be given in euro
- After 9 February 2002, all transactions will
be made in euro only
- During the dual circulation period and for
a time afterwards, An Post will exchange household amounts up to an
overall total per individual of £500 worth of Irish notes and coins
free of charge
- Post offices will continue to accept Irish
notes and coins in customer lodgements during the dual circulation
period and for a time afterwards.
Stamps
- Customers are asked to use their Irish-pound-only
denominated stamps as soon as possible in 2002. These stamps will,
however, remain valid for use until 31 December 2002
- Dual priced stamps are currently available
for all main postage rates, e.g. 30p/38c
- From 1 January 2003, euro-only denominated
stamps should be used.
Postal Money Orders
- Postal Money Orders denominated in Irish
pounds only must be cashed before 30 June 2002.
Social Welfare Payments
- Pension and welfare benefit payments made
by An Post on behalf of the Department of Social, Community and Family
Affairs will be made in Irish pounds until the end of 2001 and in
euro thereafter.
