The Department of Finance

The Department of Finance has overall responsibility for coordinating the preparation of the Irish public administration for the changeover to the euro. The initiatives which have already been put in place by the Department for the management of the changeover are described in the introduction to this Plan.

From 1 January 1999:
Small Star All budgetary, financial and economic publications, e.g. the Budget, Estimates, Economic Review and Outlook, Finance Accounts and Exchequer Returns, will provide summary information in euro.
Small Star The accounts of the Exchequer and the Paymaster General with the Central Bank will be in euro, and transactions between them, the Central Bank and the commercial banks will be in euro.
Small Star Otherwise, the bulk of transactions will continue to be conducted in Irish pounds.


From 1 January 2002:
Small Star Publications will be in euro, but for a limited period summary information will be given in Irish pounds also.
Small Star All transactions will be conducted in euro.
