Dual Display

The public sector will introduce dual display of total amounts in a number of areas in 1999. The extent of dual display in the public sector and in the rest of the economy will build up over time in order to provide the public with a scale of value in euro in preparation for the introduction of euro notes and coins on 1 January 2002.

Telecom Éireann will show the total amount on its bills in both Irish pounds and euro from January 1999.

An Post National Lottery Company (NLC) will, from 1 January 1999, show Irish currency amounts on its on-line game tickets (Lotto and Lotto 5-4-3-2-1), with the equivalent euro value being shown in brackets beside the Irish currency amount. Dual display on scratch card tickets will be introduced as early in 1999 as printing schedules permit.

Revenue Commissioners Tax Free Allowance Certificates From Spring 1999, tax-free allowance (TFA) certificates will show annual and weekly/monthly TFA amounts in both Irish pounds and euro.

Bord Gais Éireann (BGE) will show the total amount on its bills in both Irish pounds and euro from mid-1999.

The Electricity Supply Board (ESB) will display the total amount on its bills in both Irish pounds and euro from mid-1999.

The CIE Group The CIE Group companies are working to ensure that where feasible, tickets show the amounts in both Irish pounds and euro. For example, Bus Atha Cliath - Dublin Bus will show fare amounts on bus tickets in both Irish pounds and euro from mid-1999. Pre-printed tickets from all three companies in the Group (Bus Átha Cliath, Bus Éireann and Iarnród Éireann) will show fares in both Irish pounds and euro from mid-1999.

Payslips During 1999, payslips from Government Departments will show the net pay amount in both Irish pounds and euro. In general, other public sector bodies will do likewise.

Television Licences Television licences and renewal notices will show the licence fee in both Irish pounds and euro as soon as possible in 1999.

The Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs During 1999, the Department will produce a leaflet showing social welfare payment rates in both Irish pounds and euro.
