The Irish Business and Employers Confederation (IBEC)

IBEC/EAN Code of Practice
IBEC and the European Article Numbering Association Ireland have concluded a Code of Practice for the changeover from Irish pounds to euro. Retailers signing the Code will where feasible display prices in both Irish pounds and euro for at least three months before and three months after 1 January 2002. Also, where possible, they will display the total on till receipts in both Irish pounds and euro; till receipts are unlikely to show dual display item by item.

Before 1 January 2002, retailers will charge customers in Irish pounds only, even though many prices will be displayed in both Irish pounds and euro. From 1 January 2002, retail outlets will charge customers in euro only. Where Irish pound cash is tendered during the brief period after 1 January 2002 while Irish pound notes and coins are being withdrawn from circulation, retailers will convert its value into euro at the official conversion rate.

Retailers who are signatories to the Code will display a euro code logo in their retail outlets.

Food, Drink and Tobacco Federation
The Food, Drink and Tobacco Federation of IBEC has agreed a Code of Practice between grocery suppliers and retailers in the Federation. In addition to the main features outlined above, suppliers and retailers have agreed that transactions between suppliers and retailers should convert to euro on 1 January 2001 - one year before the introduction of euro notes and coins. All documentation between suppliers and retailers, including catalogues, price lists, invoices and remittance advices, will be converted to euro on that date. In general, invoices between suppliers and retailers will not display dual prices item by item, though totals will be displayed in both Irish pounds and euro. As an aid to smaller retailers, price lists from suppliers to retailers will show both Irish pounds and euro. Under the Code, all pricing discussions are to take place as normal and no advantage will be sought at the time of currency conversion.

Construction Industry Council
The Construction Industry Council (CIC) has recommended that in order to achieve as much co-ordination as possible, all business transactions within the construction industry should change over to euro in April 2001. The CIC is a body representing the Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland, the Building Materials Federation, the Construction Industry Federation, the Institution of Engineers of Ireland, the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland and the Society of Chartered Surveyors.
