An Bord Trachtála - Irish Trade Board (now part of Enterprise Ireland) has produced a handbook for exporters entitled "Irish Exporters and the Euro" and co-operates with other agencies in euro seminars throughout the country.

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) informs its members on EMU by circulating publications and by organising targeted events.

Bord Bia - Irish Food Board disseminates information on EMU to Irish food and drink companies. It also provides advice and guidance on specific marketing-related issues arising from the introduction of the euro.

The Central Bank of Ireland is a member of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB), which is composed of the European Central Bank (ECB) and EU national central banks. Information on the establishment and structure of the ESCB and the ECB was published in the Bank's Quarterly Bulletin for Autumn 1998.

Chambers of Commerce of Ireland (CCI) through its affiliate chambers nation-wide, offers a first point of contact for many firms seeking advice about the implications of the euro for their business. Many chambers have already held business briefings on the subject. Euro Info Centres housed in chambers of commerce in Sligo, Waterford, Galway and Cork have delivered information on a structured basis. During 1998, CCI will train "euro advisors" from among the staff of affiliate chambers to provide "drop in" information particularly aimed at small businesses and the services sector.

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants promotes awareness among its members by providing relevant material and periodically organising regional seminars.

The Construction Industry Federation promotes awareness through regular articles in its magazine to its members and presentations are being made to Members through its Branches and constituent Associations. A specialist group involving all participants in the construction process has been established under the Construction Industry Council to develop a co-ordinated changeover strategy.

The European Commission Representation and the European Parliament Office provide information on the euro using a number of different media, including publications, videos, overhead transparencies, conferences and exhibitions, and have the designs for the euro notes and the common face of euro coins available in floppy disk and poster format. The Forfás EMU Business Awareness Campaign provides information to help businesses prepare themselves for the changeover. The Campaign has produced a range of information that is continually updated and expanded, and is freely available to all businesses. This includes a comprehensive Information Pack outlining the key planning issues for business; a shorter summary brochure entitled Is Your Business Ready for the Euro?, a regular newsletter EuroChange, an explanatory leaflet for the retail sector Is your Retail Business Ready for the Euro? and a guide on the IT issues for business EMU: The Issues for IT. A Consultative Committee, comprising representatives of the relevant Government Departments and State agencies and representatives of many business and professional organisations, acts as a forum for co-ordination, co-operation and information exchange. The Forfás Campaign has also established specialised working groups to advise on information technology, training and retailing. The Campaign also provides information through national and local media, organises meetings for businesses and makes presentations where possible to interested groups; and has a special focus on small and medium enterprises.

The Irish Bankers' Federation and the Irish Mortgage and Savings Association: Individual banks and building societies have for some time been conducting an intensive series of briefings and seminars for their staffs and business clients nation-wide. In addition, banks and building societies have joined forces to mount a "Euro Information Campaign" which is initially aimed at staff, providing information about the changeover timetable and highlighting the need for preparations. Customers will be directed for Further Information & Links to their individual bank or building society.


IBEC, the Irish Business and Employers Confederation, runs an extensive information campaign on the euro, including publications, seminars, in-company briefing and a Website.

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions is running a Euro Information Campaign aimed at informing shop stewards and trade union officials about the changeover to the euro and the issues which trade union representatives should be addressing in partnership with management at company and sectoral level.

The Irish League of Credit Unions is the representative and service organisation for all affiliated credit unions in Ireland. The League has established a euro project team to familiarise credit unions and their members with the timetable for the changeover to the euro, highlight the key areas of impact of the euro on the credit union movement at strategic and operations levels and identify issues for immediate consideration by credit unions. Credit unions focus is to ensure that boards of directors are aware of the implications of the euro, that staff are trained to deal with front-line operations and that members are kept fully informed on a timely basis on the implications of the euro.

The Revenue Commissioners are conducting an extensive communications campaign to inform business customers of the changeover options Revenue is making available to them. The campaign includes consultations with business and professional groups and the issue of leaflets and newsletters to businesses.
