Government Departments & Offices, Local Authorities, Health Boards and State-Sponsored Bodies
All Government Departments are represented on the Single Currency Officers Team (SCOT) and have responsibility for keeping the bodies under their aegis informed of developments relating to the changeover.
From 1 January 1999:
internal financial and accounting systems will continue to operate in Irish pounds. |
the bulk of transactions will therefore continue to be conducted in Irish pounds, but Departments, local authorities, health boards and State-sponsored bodies will accept payment in euro where it is offered. |
Departments, local authorities, health boards and State-sponsored bodies will continue to make all staff and pension payments in Irish pounds. |
In general, other payments will also continue to be made in Irish pounds, as banks and building societies will process lodgements and payments expressed in Irish pounds regardless of whether the recipient’s account is denominated in Irish pounds or in euro. However, where a supplier presents an invoice in euro, payment will usually be made in euro. |
For commercial reasons State-sponsored bodies may wish to offer payment in euro (other than staff and pension payments) more widely. |
From 1 January 2002:
Departments, local authorities, health boards and State-sponsored bodies will make and accept payments in euro. |
