Changeover Board of Ireland seeks Electronic Converter for Every
Household
The Euro Changeover Board of Ireland has
gone to tender for the production of 1.5 million hand-held
electronic converters that will convert Irish pounds to euro and
euro to Irish pounds in a simple, easy-to-use manner.
Research shows that a significant number of
people in Ireland are concerned about how to convert from Irish
pounds to euro and how to check prices in euro for goods and
services.
The aim is that before euro notes and coins
arrive next January, a simple, easy-to-use electronic converter will
be distributed to every household in the country. This will empower
every household to do conversions for themselves. The converter will
be easy to operate with only two functions - pounds to euro and euro
to pounds.
The distribution of the euro converter will
complement the Board's extensive communications campaign, which
includes advertising, direct marketing, public relations, the euro
roadshow touring every county in the country, a lo call number and
website.
Mr Philip Hamell, Chairperson of the Euro
Changeover Board of Ireland, said that the Government Supplies
Agency in the Office of Public Works has placed advertisements in
the national newspapers and in the Official Journal of the European
Communities inviting tenders for this contract.
"Our public information campaign will
continue right up to the end of the changeover next February. Our
aim is that everybody should have information about the changeover
and that they can manage the conversion to euro quickly and
easily," Mr Hamell said.
Information on the euro changeover is
available on the Board's website www.euro.ie
or from its LoCall number 1890 20 10 50. Details of the Euro
Roadshow itinerary are promoted in advance in local media.
