A special Euro Roadshow will visit every county in the country during the next six months and a Euro Information Exhibition in Dublin will provide information on the changeover to euro notes and coins. The Roadshow and the Exhibition were launched by the Minister for Finance, Mr. Charlie McCreevy T.D. today (9 May 2001), at the offices in Dawson St., Dublin of the European Commission Representation and European Parliament Office in Ireland.

The Minister said that the Euro Roadshow and the Exhibition were about giving people information about the euro on a face-to-face basis.

"The two initiatives I am launching today will complement the very wide range of euro information activities being carried out by the Euro Changeover Board of Ireland", the Minister said. "The Roadshow aims to travel to every county in the country. It will be equipped with lots of information materials, with computer screens linked to the Board's website www.euro.ie and of course with good front-of-house staff to deal with people's questions and queries".

Philip Hamell, Chairperson of the Euro Changeover Board of Ireland said the Roadshow and Exhibition would complement the Board's National Information Programme on the euro.

"We want to bring euro information out to the public and to give people a chance to meet us and get their questions answered. The Euro Roadshow will visit central locations in every county, so that those who want to meet us will not have to travel too far. We are also taking the opportunity to bring the Roadshow to major public events, where we can get to large groups of people in one place," he said.

The Euro Changeover Board of Ireland, in conjunction with the European Commission and European Parliament Offices, has also opened a special Euro Information Exhibition at EU House, Dawson Street, Dublin 2. The Exhibition includes a full range of information on the changeover and will be open to the public from 9.00 am to 5.00 p.m. - Monday to Friday.

Mr Hamell said that the EPIC Centre in the EU House has over the years attracted thousands of visitors from all walks of life. "It is therefore an ideal venue for the euro exhibition in Dubin city centre and on behalf of the Euro Changeover Board of Ireland, I thank the EU for making the centre available for the Exhibition," he said.

Minister McCreevy said that it is appropriate to launch the Roadshow and the Exhibition on 9 May, Europe Day, when Member States celebrate the first move towards the creation of what is now the European Union (EU) on this day 51 years ago.

Details of the Euro Roadshow itinerary will be promoted in advance in local media.

Information on the euro changeover is available on Board's website www.euro.ie or from its LoCall number 1890 20 10 50.
